EASTSIDE COMMUNITY PROJECTS

Our community is so fortunate to have so many people committed to making the Eastside of Rotorua a better place for us all to live, work and play!

Check out below some the projects currently happening on the Eastside of Rotorua!

Taihokohoko - Eastside Community Market

Taihokohoko is by us, for us. A place for our Eastside community to come together. The kaupapa is about looking after our taiao (environment) and the hunga ao (our people). It's about repurposing the things that you no longer want by selling, swapping or giving them away. It’s also a chance to connect and learn more about what's happening on our Eastside. Come out and join us, with fun and activities for our tamariki & mokopuna.

To find out more or to book a market space please email piripiri.tataupounamu@gmail.com

There is no cost for a market space, but if you wish to make a koha towards this initiative our account number is:

Wellness Plan -

Te Ōranga Nui Rāwhiti Mai

Read the Eastside Community Wellness Plan here

The collaborative community-led approach of the collective has enabled the establishment of the Eastside Wellness Plan. This plan was developed in partnership with the Collective, local hāpu and Rotorua Lakes District Council. Significant input from residents, along with many local and national agencies such as Waka kotahi and Te Papa Atawhai (Department of Conservation) was incorporated into the plan. Conversations began in 2019, the plan was consulted on in 2020, and was adopted by Council in July 2021.

The Eastside Wellness Working Group has recently been reactivated to start focusing on the Implementation Plan and how it can be actioned.

SH30 Eastern Corridor - Stage 2

The SH30 Eastern Corridor Stage Two project involves the section of SH30/Te Ngae Road from Iles Road to Rotorua Airport.

We are addressing safety and connectivity on the corridor, while accommodating for future growth and providing people with better travel choices.

These improvements will be constructed in three phases and include:

  • Upgrades to key intersections such as Wharenui Road, Ōwhata Road, Basely Road, Brent Road, Lee/Gee roads, and Rotorua Airport/Eastgate Business Park.

  • Walking and cycling improvements such as a new three-metre-wide shared path and separate on-road cycle lane.

  • Four-laning of SH30 sections.

  • Safety improvements such as new pedestrian crossings and safety treatments at intersections.

Keep an eye on the Rotorua Lakes Council Facebook page for regular updates!
