WHAT IS TATAU POUNAMU
Tatau Pounamu is a community collective of local people, hapū and organisations with a shared vision for Eastside Rotorua to be a safe place where every child reaches their potential.
The meaning of Tatau Pounamu translates to Greenstone Doorway and is a metaphor for a safe place. Historically it reflects the Tatau Pounamu space during Māori battle which provided a safe haven for the injured, a place of security.
Tatau Pounamu covers an area from the Waiohewa Stream to the Puarenga Stream, including Mokoia Island. Find out more!
WHAT WE DO
The members of Tatau Pounamu work collaboratively with each other and with agencies and government departments to nurture and improve the hunga ao (the people) and the taiao (natural environment) of our Rawhiti rohe (Eastside area).

WORKING TOGETHER TOWARDS TATAU POUNAMU
The Tatau Pounamu Collective comes together every fortnight to discuss the mahi within the Collective and the happenings in the community. It’s an open forum for all who wish to attend! Our Collective Champions support the Tatau Pounamu vision in different ways and at different levels. We have two paid roles who support the collective in putting the Tatau Pounamu strategy into action.
Nireaha Pirika shares the Tatau Pounamu approach and way of working at the Department of Internal Affairs Community Led Development Partnership Conference (2022)
